Today we’re moving right into step 4 of our five step series for How to Quit Your Job. Over the past couple of weeks we’ve covered Listening to Yourself/Trusting Your Gut, Making a Plan, and Moving Through Fear.
Today we will cover step 4: Taking Action
We’ve all been there before, right? We have a goal, we make a plan, we make up our minds about changing something and then we don’t take the first step. The list of reasons why we didn’t act is long and all depends on your situation so we’re not going to talk about that today.
But we are going to talk about that time when you made a goal, had a plan (or not) and you DID THE DAMN THING. How did that make you feel? What about that process can you replicate now? I bet you took the first step, and that is taking action.
When it comes to taking action, the next step won’t always be this big elaborate leap of faith, most of your next steps will be small, simple actions that get you just that much closer to your goal.
Keeping your goal in mind, below are three simple steps to making sure you take action every single day:
1. Trust your plan.
You spent the time and effort to put a comprehensive plan together, now it’s time to use it, so trust it. If you did your homework, then your plan should be simple, realistic and hopefully some fun for you to execute. The first step in my plan is always to do research on the subject at hand.
2. Celebrate the little things.
Whether you bought a domain name, landed your first client, or just hit your revenue goal, celebrate it! Pausing to acknowledge your progress is a good way to evaluate what’s working and what’s not, and re-focus for the next step.
3. Be Patient
I am a veeeeery impatient person. When I make my mind up about something, I’m usually surprised to find out it hasn’t happened by the time I wake up the next morning. This is where all those bullshit cliches come into play, “stop and smell the roses//enjoy the journey//the road less traveled…” annoying yes, true? Also, yes.
You’ve got a goal, you’ve got a plan, you’ve acknowledged your fears, and now it’s time to take the next step.
What can you do today that will get you one step closer to your goals?
Taking action is always better than not.
