When’s the last time you were completely absorbe When’s the last time you were completely absorbed by a novel?

I’m talking about the unputdownable, so-good-you-forgot-to-pee, read-it-cover-to-cover-in-a-weekend kind.

Your business is kind of like a book on a shelf at the world’s largest indie bookstore. (I like to shop local even in my metaphors.) It’s one of thousands—nay, millions—of options to choose from.

And your ideal client needs help choosing just one: yours.

What makes a book stand out? Turns out, it’s not that different from your business.

Things like:
✨ An amazing cover (your branding)
✨ An intriguing title (your business or offer name)
✨ Prominent placement on a book display (your brand’s positioning)
✨ Staff recommendations and book endorsements (social proof)
✨ A compelling back-cover blurb (your brand story and messaging)
✨ All the promotional efforts that got it on the shelf in the first place (your marketing)
You’ve already written the book.

You’ve got the packaging, decent sales, + rave reviews.

The thing is, you want your business to become a bestseller. And if you’ve been stuck at your current level for some time, it’s likely your messaging and marketing strategy that are due for a rewrite.

Which is why I'm excited to introduce the workshop I'm co-hosting with @mettleandtonicco next week called ✨ Main Character Energy.✨

Because I want you to craft your elevator pitch and tell a story with your marketing that your audience will love.

It's all happening next ✨ Thursday, May 25th from 12-2pm EST.✨

✨DM for more details and the link to buy your ticket!

You can't keep doing it all forever. Eventually, You can't keep doing it all forever.

Eventually, something will give so why not get ahead of it?

Part of being a responsible business owner is knowing when to let go of control and knowing when and where you could use a little more of it.

Delegate.

Set boundaries.

Say no.

If you feel like you're lost in the woods and can' If you feel like you're lost in the woods and can't find your way out, or

You're slowing drowning with the weight of each new business responsibility you take on,

Then this message is for you ⬇️

There comes a point (honestly, this will happen more than once) in growing your business where you look around and, for better or worse, wonder how you got here.

And sometimes, even if "here" is where you wanted to get to, you realize that it's definitely not where you'd like to stay.

🙋🏻‍♀️ Drop an emoji in the comments if you've been here before 😬

THIS IS NORMAL. IT'S PART OF MATURING AS A BUSINESS OWNER.

🧭 Here are my tips for navigating transitions in your business - whether you're growing, downsizing or pivoting:

✔️ Slow down for a minute - transitions can be uncomfortable, making you want to rush through this phase as quickly as possible. What you actually need to do is the opposite. Slow down. Step back.

✔️ Ground yourself - is journaling or writing part of your creative process? If not, now is a good time to start. Revisit your values - as an individual, as a business owner (or whatever role/title you currently hold in your biz) AND as a business. For the personal brands, there will be a lot of overlap here.

✔️ Talk it out with someone who can help you sift through your BS and nudge you to do the thing you know you're supposed to (HI! IT'S ME. I HELP WITH THIS).

✔️ Put a few small, simple action steps together. You move out of the woods one step at a time.

Trust that the path will become clear with your new perspective (slowing down/stepping back), your renewed sense of purpose (journaling/values) and the clarity you received from speaking your fears/ideas out loud.

This is the moment where, more than anything else, trust + determination will see you through.

Now is not the time to quit.

Can you guess what marketing action item gets me t Can you guess what marketing action item gets me the biggest eye roll from clients?

And which one is the one I suggest the most?

LOCAL NETWORKING. Here's why ⬇️

1. It's great practice for you - do you want to know how you get better at pitching yourself, how you test new messaging or how you get comfortable putting yourself out there - PRACTICE (I'm talkin' about practice!).

2. You NEVER and I mean NEVER know who you'll meet or what connections you'll make. The goal of networking is not to make a sale that night. The goal of networking is CONNECTION - maybe that connection leads to a new client, a new opportunity or a new mom friend.

3. It never hurts to get our of your shop/house/studio, put on some "real clothes" and meet some other business owners in real life. Are all networking events going to be your cup of tea? Of course not, but how will you find the ones that are if you don't try?

We all know that Word of Mouth is still the best form of marketing. One way to help spread that word is to SPREAD THE WORD YOURSELF. We usually think of WOM as happy clients doing the talking for us, which it most certainly is, but happy clients aren't the only way word can spread.

You can also spread the word and so can the people you meet (who haven't networked with you).

If want your name/business name to come up in rooms that you're not in (yet) then put a face with it so they don't forget - "I'm looking to redo my website, do you know of anyone locally?" "Yeah! I just met this woman at an event last night - here's her info." DONE.

Again, the point of networking is making connections and building relationships. You've got this!
